I truly cannot think of a better way to start off the new year than by reading “Spiritual Intelligence: The Art of Thinking Like God”, a challenging and life-changing new book written by pastor and best-selling author Kris Vallotton. In this book, Kris utilizes solid Biblical teachings to unpack a simple question: “What does it mean to think like God, to have the mind of Christ?” Have you ever considered the answer to this question for yourself? Written in a warm and engaging style, this book overflows with profound teachings as well as practical applications to begin using SQ, or spiritual intelligence, in our daily lives. The results, as you will see, are nothing short of extraordinary. Continue reading

A Truly Classic Story, In My Opinion

“I set off for India. And I discovered that everything I had thought important. . . isn’t.”
This quotation is the underlying theme weaving all the beautiful, poetic pages of Kimberly Duffy’s new novel together. Gussie Travers, our heroine, pens these words in her journal, and in them we discover the cry of her heart – before she even fully realizes it herself. “Every Word Unsaid” is the third book I’ve read by this incredible Bethany House author, and she truly never ceases to amaze me with her meaningful and thought-provoking novels that also entertain the imagination and are a delight to the senses. You simply cannot read one of her stories without wanting to visit India, with all its sights and sounds and smells and textures. Continue reading
A Rich, Thoughtful, and Intriguing Tale
Kate Breslin’s sweeping new wartime novel will whisk you away to Scotland, 1918. Here the shocking drama of one young woman’s desperate attempt at a new beginning collides with a murderous plot to destroy the lives of many, and alter the course of the war. “As Dawn Breaks” was published by Bethany House late in 2021, and is a not-to-be-missed release by any fans of Ms. Breslin’ previous work, or readers who love masterfully-crafted historical novels. What A Special Story
You know you’ve found a rare, special novelist when each time you open up the pages to their fictional world, it feels like a homecoming. “A Flicker of Light” is the first book I’ve read by Katie Powner, and it is also one of the most vivid and poignant stories I’ve enjoyed in years. By combining the warmth and humour of small-town country life with some of the most heart-wrenching experiences in this world (death and illness of loved ones) Ms. Powner creates a story that reaches deep into our imaginations and touches our souls. Take An In-Depth Journey With Moses
Erica Wiggenhorn has a special gift for bringing characters from the Bible to life, and making their stories, struggles, and strivings become relatable to our own lives. Her new book from Moody Publishers, “Letting God Be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck And How Surrender Sets You Free” is a bit of a deviation from the last three Bible studies she’s written; instead this book is written in a basic 16-chapter format. At the end of each chapter is a section to help us pause and reflect, apply, and pray about the content we just read. Continue reading
A New Destination and Adventure In The American Wonders Collection!
In book #3 of the “American Wonders Collection”, Regina Scott takes us to another historically unique setting where a courageous woman takes a stand and faces seemingly insurmountable odds. This is the very basic synopsis for each of the three books in the series, but in all other aspects of story and characterization, each one is different and special in its own way. In “A View Most Glorious” we go back in time to 1893 and journey alongside Coraline Baxter as she becomes one of the first women to climb Mount Ranier in the state of Washington, in the hopes of raising awareness for the suffragette cause and gaining women the right to vote. Continue reading
I Can’t Wait For December To Read This Book!
The air is turning colder, the days are getting shorter, and only a few tenacious leaves are still clinging to the trees. You know what that means – Christmas is just around the corner! And although we may try to deny it, with the holiday season usually comes busyness, stress, and the pressures to do and buy and go and see even more. But, as beloved author Susie Larson says, what if there is a different way this year? “Prepare Him Room: A Daily Advent Devotional” from Bethany House Publishers is a beautiful little volume that challenges us to ask the question: What matters most this Christmas season? Continue reading
A Book You May Just Need – Right Now

Have you ever had a book arrive in your life unexpectedly – maybe you’ve never heard of it before, or never read anything by that author – and yet it was exactly the book you needed right at that moment in time? This was the case for me with a new book by Sally Clarkson, entitled “HELP, I’m Drowning: Weathering the Storms of Life with Grace and Hope”. When I first saw this title, little did I know that by the time it arrived in my mailbox our family would be facing a huge health crisis, and our entire lives would be turned upside down in the space of a few weeks. And yet, of course, God knew… Continue reading
Another Epic Historical From Amy Lynn Green
Sometimes when an especially epic debut novel emerges from the publishing world, I can’t help but wonder if it was in part beginner’s luck… not that a lot of hard work wasn’t involved, yet how can the newly minted author possibly write another story that lives up to the first one, right? But with Amy Lynn Green, her second release from Bethany House is just as incredible as the first. In fact, you can tell that this author has so much yet-untapped, storytelling potential and creative genius just waiting to emerge, and I am so excited to see where her journey as an author takes her. Continue reading
A Must Read This Remembrance Day – Guest Review by Hayley
To this day “Set The Stars Alight” remains one of the best books I have ever had the privilege of reading. Thus, as the next release from this author, “Yours is the Night” had much to live up to, and Amanda Dykes did not disappoint. Once again she has created an incredible story with her signature style of poetically beautiful writing and heart-wrenching emotion infused with deeply symbolic meaning behind each word. The back cover classifies this book as only Historical Fiction – but it is so much more than just that. Continue reading
