I don’t know how she does it, but Stephenia H. McGee’s new release from Revell is so vivid and real in my imagination that it feels more like a movie than a novel! “The Secrets of Emberwild” is a beautiful, sweeping, and unforgettable story that I adored from start to finish, and if you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction it should definitely be high on your to-read list as well. Arranged Marriage
Not The Series’ Finest
The “Colorado Cowboys” saga continues in book #3, “To Tame a Cowboy”, written by talented author Jody Hedlund and published by Bethany House. I know there will be at least one more book to come in the series later this fall, and I’m expecting two more – so that each McQuaid sibling gets to tell their story. Filled with plenty of adventure and romance set on the Western frontier, “To Tame a Cowboy” is an interesting addition to the series. But, it is not my favourite for a few reasons… Continue reading
A Mind-bending New Novel! – Guest Review by Hayley
“When the Day Comes” is like nothing I’ve ever read. It’s sort of like Christian historical fiction meets “Back to the Future” – if you can imagine that! One description I would use in reference to this book is mind-bending. The concept of time-travel is, of course, difficult to grasp. It’s interesting to think of all the implications that would come with time-travel if it were actually real. One of the biggest take-aways from this book is how much our choices matter, and how even small choices have the potential to change the course of history. But most importantly, no matter our actions, God is sovereign over it all. Continue reading
Just A Bit Too Familiar…
I love a good princess story as much as the next girl – and when the said princess story is also a Christian Romance published by Bethany House, then you can bet that I won’t pass that one by! “In Search of a Prince” was written by Toni Shiloh, a new-to-me author with plenty of talent and potential. Continue reading
The ”American Royalty” Adventures Continue
I have been excited for Grace Hitchcock’s new release from Bethany House, “Her Darling Mr. Day”, ever since last year when the oh-so-memorable first story in the “American Royalty” series became available. This new tale continues with two of my favourite secondary characters, and takes place in the fascinating southern city of New Orleans in the year 1883. Continue reading
A Rich, Thoughtful, and Intriguing Tale
Kate Breslin’s sweeping new wartime novel will whisk you away to Scotland, 1918. Here the shocking drama of one young woman’s desperate attempt at a new beginning collides with a murderous plot to destroy the lives of many, and alter the course of the war. “As Dawn Breaks” was published by Bethany House late in 2021, and is a not-to-be-missed release by any fans of Ms. Breslin’ previous work, or readers who love masterfully-crafted historical novels. A Beautiful Edition of a Classic Tale
When a special 20th Anniversary Edition of “one of the most beloved Christian romance novels of all time” released, and I had never read it, I immediately knew what was next on my TBR list! “The Princess” was originally written in 1999 by Lori Wick and quickly became a bestselling classic, with more than 275,000 copies sold. In March of 2019, Harvest House Publishers re-released the story in a gorgeous hardcover keepsake edition, complete with ribbon bookmark and foil-adorned cover. Now a new generation of readers, myself included, can enjoy the gentle love story set in the fictional land of Pendaran. Continue reading
Difficult to Enjoy (Guest Review by Hayley)
The last book I read by Rachel Hauck was “A Royal Christmas Wedding”. It easily became my favourite book by this author, and just as easily one of my favourite novellas to read during the Christmas season. Thus, when I read the charming description of “The Writing Desk”, well, there was no way of refusing! I so much hoped for another story that would be as much a joy as the last. Continue reading
