Sometimes we need a gentle, slow-paced story that reminds us to take a deep breath and just…. be. “The Nature of Small Birds” by Susie Finkbeiner was just such a book for me, and it was also one of my favourite novels of the entire year. This story is told in a chapter pattern where the entire book goes through the sequence of perspectives for three different family members, at varying time periods of their lives. The neat part? This story is primarily about a girl named Mindy, but she is not even one of the narrators telling the story! Continue reading

Jaime Jo Wright’s Best Story Yet (and that’s saying a LOT!)
“On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor” is my new favourite novel by Jaime Jo Wright! Published by Bethany House in the summer of 2021, this book has just the right mixture of dark mystery, hopeful healing, and dual-time back-and-forth sequences to keep me turning pages long into the night – I simply couldn’t wait to see how it was all resolved! I also love how it was deliciously creepy and haunting, but it all turned out reasonably explained in the end. Continue reading
A Gripping Start to a New Series by Lynette Eason
I only read a handful of Christian Romantic Suspense novels each year, so when I choose my titles from this genre I usually go with authors I’ve read in the past and enjoyed. Lynette Eason is always at the top of my list for fast-paced, heart-pounding, clean-content action stories with a faith-based theme, and I was delighted when in January of 2018 she released the first book in a brand-new series! “Oath of Honor” is installment #1 in the “Blue Justice” series from Revell Publishing, and what a fantastic start it was… Continue reading
The Long-Awaited Conclusion to an Unforgettable Series
For me, and I’m sure for many readers, it is always a bittersweet moment when you reach the final pages of a series that has worked its way deep into your heart and imagination. As one of my favorite authors, many of Michael Phillips’ series are very dear to me; but perhaps none quite so much as his latest work entitled “Secrets of the Shetlands”. Published by Bethany House in the summer of 2017, “The Legacy” is the final installment of the Shetland saga, and masterfully closes a narrative that weaves the past and present into a beautiful and unforgettable tale. Continue reading
My First Supernatural Suspense Adventure. . . (A Guest Review by Hayley)
Supernatural suspense is not my normal genre of reading material. In fact, until now, I’d barely even heard of it. Still, when I read the description for Bethany House’s new release “Invitation”, there was just something I couldn’t resist. It promised thrilling mystery, perilous adventure, and gripping paranormal phenomena. Did it deliver on these promises? Oh yes, and so much more.
The four novellas contained within this book, each one from the minds of four bestselling authors, follow the journeys of a team brought together against all odds. Fighting supernatural darkness that is emerging throughout the world, this unlikely team comes together time and again to bring the power of God into victory, and the demons to their knees. Book #2 of an Unforgettable Series
I just finished one of the best books I’ve read in 2016, written by my all-time favorite author Michael Phillips. This story will hold a treasured place on my bookshelf, as well as in my heart, always. What book am I referring to? Well, it is the second in a Bethany House series called the “Secrets of the Shetlands”, which began in May 2016 with “The Inheritance”. The newest installment, which I just finished reading, is called “The Cottage”. Finally, the series will be wrapped up next summer with “The Legacy”. (And I can’t wait!) Each of these books is very closely interwoven, and picks up almost immediately after the previous book comes to a close. Continue reading
The Second Installment to a Fantastic Series!
The second “Serena Jones Mystery” has finally been released to all the patiently waiting fans of “A Fool and His Monet” (book 1 in the series). “Another Day, Another Dali”, written by Sandra Orchard and published by Revell, contains all the charm, wit, and subtle romance of the first book, but is a completely new adventure for Serena and her hilarious band of family, friends, and would-be-suitors. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, comedic romance, and writing that brings each scene to life with clarity, “Serena Jones Mysteries” are the books for you… Continue reading
