“Deeper Waters: Immersed in the Life-Changing Truth of God’s Word” is the type of book that you will want to keep close by, on your nightstand or in your desk, because you will inevitably want to read and reference it time after time. Written by Denise J. Hughes (author of the “Word Writers” series) and published by Harvest House in 2017, this book offered so much more than I expected. One of Revell Publishing’s newest releases to the non-fiction market is “Hurt Road” by none other than Mark Lee, guitarist for the Christian band Third Day. In a gentle, friendly style, Mark Lee invites us to join him in the stories he has lived, offering us a glimpse into “the music, the memories, and the miles between”. While “Hurt Road” is a book that can easily be enjoyed by anyone, I would especially recommend it to those with a love of music, as much of the book is written from the perspective of a musician. That is basically my short description of a book by Anne Bogel called “Reading People: How Seeing the World Through the Lens of Personality Changes Everything”. Published by BakerBooks in the autumn of 2017, the sub-title of this book really says it all. Why? Because everything truly does change when you view life through the lens of personality! Awesome Resource for Moviegoers!
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I first picked up my copy of of “God in the Movies: A Guide for Exploring Four Decades of Film”, edited by Catherine M. Barsotti and Robert K. Johnston. Published by BrazosPress in 2017, the purpose of the book is to “encourage movie lovers and small groups to reflect critically and theologically on some of the best movies of recent years.”
“God in the Movies” is a thick volume with in-depth discussions for 40 movies, all released between 1981 and 2014. This extensive list includes classics such as: “Chariots of Fire”, “Groundhog Day”, “Up”, “Life of Pi”, and of course many more. Continue reading
