Dee Henderson is the popular and award-winning author of many bestselling series, but honestly, after reading her latest novel, I don’t see what all the hype for her writing is about. “Traces of Guilt: An Evie Blackwell Cold Case”, was published by Bethany House late in 2016. It is presumably the first of a new series, but is somehow connected to many of Henderson’s previous books as well. In any case, I was excited to dive into what I hoped would be a fascinating mystery filled with twists and turns as a years-old mystery is finally solved. That’s what a cold case mystery novel is, right? Unfortunately, not so much…
“Traces of Guilt” was disappointing for several primary reasons: Continue reading
Sigh… I am quite sad. Why? Because one of the most intriguing, compelling and well-written novel series I’ve read in a long time has reached the end. Finished. Over. Forever. Isn’t that tragic? Roseanna M. White’s “Ladies of the Manor” series, published by Bethany House, began a year ago with the release of
“A Financial Thriller That Will Keep Readers on the Edge of Their Seats”. This is the tagline for a new book called “The Domino Effect” written by Davis Bunn and published by Bethany House in the fall of 2016. I’ve read and enjoyed the intricate plots of Mr. Bunn’s work before, so I decided to take a closer look at this one too. Although the back-cover synopsis sounded extremely interesting and fast-paced, I still had one question…what exactly is a financial thriller?
Controversy. Scandal. Desperation. These words were not ones I expected to use when describing the newly released Bethany House book entitled “A Heart Most Certain”, written by new-to-me author Melissa Jagears. The lovely cover image, the series name of “Teaville Moral Society”, and even the back-cover synopsis did not reveal what this book was truly about. While the storyline and plot did surprise me greatly, I was not, however, disappointed in my hope for a wonderful story. It was simply wonderful in unexpected ways.
I don’t usually recommend picking up a book located in the middle or at the end of a series without having read the earlier stories, but I recently did exactly that… “The Artisan’s Wife” was written by Judith Miller and published by Bethany House in 2016, as the third and final installment in the “Refined by Love” series. Although numerous references were made to the earlier stories (because each book is about a different member of the same family) “The Artisan’s Wife” still stood strong all on its own, and gave just enough explanation to make the recurring characters understandable without re-telling their entire stories!
She’s done it again, folks! Master storyteller Karen Witemeyer has crafted a tale that will capture your heart and imagination, and draw you in faster than quicksand… Published by Bethany House in 2016, Ms. Witemeyer’s newest book is entitled “No Other Will Do”, and is a “Ladies of Harper’s Station” novel. The question is, does it pass the expectations set by so many of her other books? Let’s play a little game I call “Is This the Book for You?” to find out!
“Beloved Author Lawana Blackwell Returns With a Charming and Memorable Tale!” I couldn’t agree with this tagline more if I had written it myself… “A Haven on Orchard Lane” was published by Bethany House in the summer of 2016, and certainly is both a charming and memorable tale.
Stepping into the world of an Elizabeth Camden novel is always a magical experience. The characters share their stories with dazzling lifelikeness, and the unique plot yanks you in from the beginning. Rarely are you disappointed! “From This Moment”, Ms. Camden’s 2016 Christian Historical Fiction release from Bethany House, is no exception.
“There are so many moments in life when we choose to silence our intuition, abandon our own voice, and play small, because of that accusing voice inside that whispers, ‘Who do you think you are, anyway?’” We all know that voice. The one that keeps us from being ourselves. The one that tells us to stay quiet. The one that forces us to follow all the rules, and tame our wild side that is aching to be released. Now, imagine being able to break free from that debilitating, condescending, shaming voice. Well, thanks to Leeana Tankersley and her new book “Brazen”, you now have an invaluable tool to help you do just that.
