You know Christmas is just around the corner when Melody Carlson releases her new, annual Christmas novella from Revell Publishers! “A Christmas by the Sea” is the newest release from the pen of Ms. Carlson and is a sweet little story of new beginnings, seaside reminiscences, the possibility of romance – and of course it all takes place at Christmastime. A Timely Message
A new release from Revell Publishers written by Kay Wills Wyma holds a very timely message for practically everyone living in the fast-paced world of our modern day and age. “Not the Boss of Us: Putting Overwhelmed In It’s Place In A Do-All, Be-All World” is the response to the questions so many of us feel deep down, sometimes even subconsciously: “Too much to manage and not enough time or energy to do it? What if instead of being overwhelmed with life you could be overwhelmed by Truth with all its grace, hope, peace, and love?” Continue reading
October 11th – International Day of the Girl (and an interview!)
Today, October 11th, is the International Day of the Girl. Have you heard of it before? If not, click here to read a post we shared earlier this week and learn more about what this day commemorates.
To follow up and dig a little deeper into the special project we discussed in this post, we are honored to share the following interview with Misty Ropp, spokesperson for Compassion Canada. Enjoy this insider’s peek into the inspiring story of a project helping girls in Uganda, and learn how we can become more involved in this Compassion Canada project and others like it.
(Many thanks to Mikayla from Graf-Martin Communications for giving us the opportunity to get involved and share about this project, and for providing this excellent interview with Misty Ropp).
A New Christmas Tradition!
We just celebrated our Canadian Thanksgiving, and snow is in the forecast… You know what that means – Christmas is right around the corner! It’s time to pull out some old favorite Christmas stories, and hopefully add a few new ones to our collections. In fact, I just finished reading the most delightful little Christmas novel, perfect for ringing in the holiday season and certain to touch the hearts of readers of all ages. Continue reading
Disappointing Novel About C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman’s Relationship
I had high hopes for a new book written by Patti Callahan and published by Thomas Nelson. “Becoming Mrs. Lewis” promised to be a “masterful exploration of one of the greatest love stories of modern times” – the one between C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman. What I actually discovered, however, was a story so ridden with inappropriate and downright yucky content that I was unable to finish the book.
To be clear, “Becoming Mrs. Lewis” is a well-written and thought-provoking novel that seems to be based, at least to a certain extent, on the real relationship between C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman. The problems arise in the details of the behind-the-scenes relationship story… Continue reading
Compassion Canada Celebrates “International Day of the Girl”
Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canadians! Most of us celebrate this long weekend and dedicate it to giving thanks for the many blessings we receive each day, but did you know there is another special day to celebrate this week?
Thursday, October 11th is the International Day of the Girl. As Mikayla from Graf-Martin Communications explains, this is “a day established by United Nations General Assembly, dedicated to highlighting the unique needs and challenges girls face, specifically in developing countries.”
As part of the celebration for International Day of the Girl, Compassion Canada is sharing about a special project that is both inspiring and humbling at the same time. Please read the story below, and let the important work being done with this project touch your heart, and remind us to share God’s love and compassion to help girls (and boys!) grow into all their Heavenly Father intends for them. The Electrifying Conclusion of “The Tox Files”
At long last, the epic chronicle of “The Tox Files” comes to an electrifying climax and shocking conclusion! “Thirst of Steel” is the third book in the riveting series written by Ronie Kendig and published by Bethany House, and is undoubtedly the best and most compelling installment of them all. If you have enjoyed the previous hair-raising operations of Tox Russell and the rest of the Wraith team, you will not want to miss this final conflict, which “Will hinge on one of history’s most dangerous blades”… The sword of Goliath. An Exciting New Film Releases This Weekend: “Little Women: A Modern Movie”!
2018 marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of a very special story. This story has worked its way into the hearts and imaginations of girls for generations, and influenced young women to love, dream, grow, and become the women God created them to be. “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott is one of my favorite classic novels, and on September 28th, 2018, this timeless story will be released in theatres as a modern movie to inspire a new generation of girls. Pinnacle Peak Entertainment and Pure Flix presents: “Little Women: A Modern Movie”. Continue reading
High-Time for a Story
I love this post by Tracy at Prairie Sky Natural Healing… And it fits right in here at Prairie Sky Book Reviews! Check it out, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
Hello my dear friends, how is everyone doing after a busy summer? Today (and always), I’m excited about books. My two girls and I LOVE books. We are very big readers, and are always having a conversation about a book (or books) we’re reading. Lately I’ve been reading/studying mostly non-fiction…animal communication, energy healing, medical intuition, meditation, and the list goes on. My girls have finally won their campaign to get me to read a fiction book. I’m loving it. It’s a historical fiction, one of my favorite genres. I forgot what it was like to get lost in a book! Oh it’s so much fun! I leave the worries of my day and enter a wonderful story. As it’s getting cooler outside, and the daylight hours are shorter, we also tend to watch a few more movies too. This past weekend we pulled out The Sound of Music—it’s such a…

A Powerful, Scripture-Based Battle Plan
“Battle Ready: Train Your Mind to Conquer Challenges, Defeat Doubt, and Live Victoriously”. Wow! With a title like that, you certainly expect a book that is filled with actionable and practical wisdom, and Bible-based strategies to help us walk fully and courageously in the plans (and on the path) that God has for us. Does this book deliver on this expectation? Absolutely!
