Didn’t Quite Shine

It is rare that I don’t have plenty to say about a Bethany House-published book, but unfortunately that is the case with Tracie Peterson’s new release, and the first story in the “Golden Gate Secrets” series. Continue reading

Breathtaking and Unforgettable

Have you ever read a novel that was so remarkably unique, masterfully written, and utterly compelling that it almost left you speechless with amazement? Lisa T. Bergren’s new story, which is book number one in “The Sugar Baron’s Daughters” series, is a historical novel that is nothing short of a masterpiece, and will sweep you away to a time and place that seems almost like another world (but one that is vivid and alive and fascinating all at the same time). “Keturah” takes place in 1772. It begins in England, but through the course of the book we journey with the characters as they travel to a new life (though not the one they would have chosen) and the legacy their father left them on the Caribbean isle of Nevis. At long last, the sequel to a book adored by many has finally been released! “Out of the Ashes” is book number two in “The Heart of Alaska” series written by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse, and was published by Bethany House at the start of 2018. This delightful novel continues the stories of many characters from the first book (“In the Shadow of Denali”), and also introduces several fascinating new characters who find God’s hope and healing in the beautiful wilderness of Alaska. The Long-Awaited Conclusion to an Unforgettable Series

For me, and I’m sure for many readers, it is always a bittersweet moment when you reach the final pages of a series that has worked its way deep into your heart and imagination. As one of my favorite authors, many of Michael Phillips’ series are very dear to me; but perhaps none quite so much as his latest work entitled “Secrets of the Shetlands”. Published by Bethany House in the summer of 2017, “The Legacy” is the final installment of the Shetland saga, and masterfully closes a narrative that weaves the past and present into a beautiful and unforgettable tale. I’m Already Anticipating My Next Visit to Cimarron Creek!

It’s been a while since I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed a heartwarming Christian Historical Romance, but I’ve just finished one that definitely fits that description… Although “A Stolen Heart” is the first novel I’ve read by Amanda Cabot, it certainly won’t be my last! Published by Revell in the spring of 2017, this story is the first of the “Cimarron Creek Trilogy”. Without question, this story contains all of the elements that fans of Historical Fiction love and expect, including memorable characters, a western setting, and a heart-melting romance, but with an added dose of mystery and drama woven in as well. Don’t Miss the Journey of Becoming “Made Well” – Guest Review by Hayley

made-well-image“In the beginning, you were made well. Designed with divine imagination, shaped by sacred hands, and crafted by the Curator of creation. You and I were called good. We were already enough.” Such is the opening line of Jenny Simmons’ new release from Baker Books, “Made Well”. The subtitle describes it best: “Finding Wholeness in the Everyday Sacred Moments”. The Road to Becoming – A Guest Review by Hayley

Jenny Simmons

“The fact that I survive, even grow and thrive in my desert season of lostness has little to do with my own ability to stay alive. It has everything to do with the fact that I am kept alive and sustained by the Giver of Life. It has everything to do with the truth that even when my life seems silent and barren, if there is a heartbeat, then the Great Comforter is present. Is a heartbeat not God’s most basic presence? How can the Giver of Life be non-present if life is present? If there is a heartbeat, there is a God. He dwells within us – who are created in His very image.”

The Road to Becoming imageThis short excerpt is just one of many gems of wisdom you will find in Baker Publishing’s new release The Road to Becoming, by former Addison Road lead singer Jenny Simmons. Her heartfelt, whimsical writing pulls us in like a warm embrace from a long-lost friend, and she continues to hold our hand and walk with us every step of the way, gently encouraging us in our walk with the Lord, and guiding us on our own road to becoming with a depth of understanding that can only come from someone who has been there.
