Do you enjoy suspense novels that suck you in with the first chapter and keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end, guessing at how all the twists and turns will unravel when the truth is finally revealed? “The Raven” by Mike Nappa is just such a book. Published by Revell in 2016, “The Raven” is actually the second book in the “Coffey and Hill” series. While I have not read the previous book (entitled “Annabel Lee”) it did not detract from my enjoyment of this separate-but-connected storyline. Although Christian Romantic Suspense is not my go-to genre of choice, I am happy to be swept away by one filled with mystery, intrigue, and excitement once in a while. Genuinely Unforgettable
Stepping into the world of an Elizabeth Camden novel is always a magical experience. The characters share their stories with dazzling lifelikeness, and the unique plot yanks you in from the beginning. Rarely are you disappointed! “From This Moment”, Ms. Camden’s 2016 Christian Historical Fiction release from Bethany House, is no exception.
Each character within this story, despite their role, is exquisitely drawn. As per a Camden novel, Romulus the hero and Stella the heroine are unexpected and unorthodox, but utterly charming nonetheless. Their strengths, weaknesses, and ambitions make them approachable and human. Unquestionably, each character within “From This Moment” truly makes the novel an unforgettable one. Continue reading
Much More “Creepy” Than “Cozy”
“Murder Comes by Mail” is the anticipated second book in the “Hidden Springs Mystery” series, written by A.H Gabhart and published by Revell. As a continuation this book focuses on the same protagonist, supporting cast members and setting, but a vastly different plot and mystery. Although considered a “cozy mystery”, the darker elements of this book definitely did not feel very “cozy” to me. Yes, there were a few light and humorous moments, but they never lasted long. A Remarkable Yet Difficult Sequel
Have you ever read a book containing an irresistible setting and characters you adore, but that was built around a storyline that just didn’t align with your morals and principles pertaining to Christian Fiction? Well, that is my dilemma with Roseanna M. White’s newest book in the historical “Ladies of the Manor” series, entitled “The Reluctant Duchess”. Published by Bethany House in the spring of 2016, this story contains many recurring characters, sub-plots, and themes from the previous book in the series, and should definitely be read in the order intended by the author.
