A Sweetly Irresistible Sequel
A question for readers: Isn’t it fun when you adore the first book in a new series, then you anticipate the next installment for months (hoping you won’t be disappointed) only to discover that book number two is even better than the first?! For me, Jody Hedlund’s “Orphan Train” series from Bethany House is the perfect example. “With You Always” was an excellent Christian Historical Novel, but “Together Forever” resonated with me even more… Perhaps because I could relate to the characters in big ways, and I loved the inclusion of the young orphans – in search of new families – who really added to the story with color, vivacity, and depth of emotion. “The Sea Before Us” is the first of a brand new series that Sarah Sundin’s readers have been eagerly anticipating. After reading the first installment of the “Sunrise at Normandy” trilogy, I can see that this series is staying true to the author’s trademark of military adventures, and presents a brand new story of Texas-born Lieutenant Wyatt Paxton of the United States Navy, and British-born Second Officer Dorothy Fairfax of the Royal Navy. After immensely enjoying this author’s previous series, “Waves of Freedom,” I was thrilled to join these new characters in their story which, unlike “Waves of Freedom,” takes place in Europe as opposed to the United States. Breathtaking and Unforgettable
Have you ever read a novel that was so remarkably unique, masterfully written, and utterly compelling that it almost left you speechless with amazement? Lisa T. Bergren’s new story, which is book number one in “The Sugar Baron’s Daughters” series, is a historical novel that is nothing short of a masterpiece, and will sweep you away to a time and place that seems almost like another world (but one that is vivid and alive and fascinating all at the same time). “Keturah” takes place in 1772. The Concluding Story in a Memorable Series
With the first two books in the “Teaville Moral Society” by Melissa Jagears, I came to expect well-written Christian Historical novels that weren’t afraid to tackle tough themes with grace and truth. The third and final novel in the series, “A Chance at Forever”, was released in the spring of 2018 and follows perfectly in step with these expectations.
While “A Chance at Forever” could certainly be a standalone story, it will make the most sense and bring the most enjoyment when read in sequence… After all, revisiting old “friends” from previous stories is always a delight! Continue reading
A Well-Done Novel with Interesting Historical Details – Guest Review by Hayley
While “The Weaver’s Daughter” is just the latest of several books by Sarah Ladd, it was a first for me, as I have never before read this author.
“The Weaver’s Daughter” tells the story of a hardworking assembly of weavers as they fight for their livelihood during a time when machine-power of developing mills was quickly replacing man-power of individual families. With both the weavers and the mill workers and owners living within the same small community of Amberdale, tension runs high, as distinct divisions are made between the residents, and increasing hatred, pride, greed, suspicion, and anger fester among the people.
