Lynn Austin is a master at the art of writing. Her newest Christian Historical Fiction novel from Bethany House to showcase her skills was released in the winter of 2016. “Waves of Mercy” is a sweeping tale of love, loss, and faith that spans multiple generations and captures the hearts and minds of readers from the first page. Book #2 of an Unforgettable Series

the-cottage-imageI just finished one of the best books I’ve read in 2016, written by my all-time favorite author Michael Phillips. This story will hold a treasured place on my bookshelf, as well as in my heart, always. What book am I referring to? Well, it is the second in a Bethany House series called the “Secrets of the Shetlands”, which began in May 2016 with “The Inheritance”. The newest installment, which I just finished reading, is called “The Cottage”. Finally, the series will be wrapped up next summer with “The Legacy”. (And I can’t wait!) Each of these books is very closely interwoven, and picks up almost immediately after the previous book comes to a close. Continue reading

NKJV Journal the Word Bible – A Lovely Edition

journal-the-word-bible-imageAre you searching for a high-quality, durable, and reader-friendly Bible that is suitable for everyday use? So was I, until I found a lovely new version from Thomas Nelson, entitled “NKJV Journal the Word Large Print Bible: Reflect, Journal, or Create Art Next to Your Favorite Verses”. From the floral-fabric encased hardcover to the thick, cream-colored pages, this Bible delighted me from the start. Of course, the special feature of this edition was also a bonus – the lightly ruled lines vertically bordering one side of each page allow for plenty of room to include notes, reflections, or even art next to the verses themselves. The Second Installment to a Fantastic Series!

dali-comps.inddThe second “Serena Jones Mystery” has finally been released to all the patiently waiting fans of “A Fool and His Monet” (book 1 in the series). “Another Day, Another Dali”, written by Sandra Orchard and published by Revell, contains all the charm, wit, and subtle romance of the first book, but is a completely new adventure for Serena and her hilarious band of family, friends, and would-be-suitors. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, comedic romance, and writing that brings each scene to life with clarity, “Serena Jones Mysteries” are the books for you… Continue reading

Calling All Cat Lovers!

kit-kat-and-lucy-imageDoes your family include any furry members of the feline variety? If your answer is yes, I have just the book for you! “Kit Kat and Lucy: The Country Cats Who Changed a City Girl’s World” by Lonnie Hull DuPont is a sweet and charming book about a pair of cats who truly fulfilled the title of their story, in both remarkable and everyday-ordinary ways.

Published by Revell in the autumn of 2016, this delightful true story is certain to bring a smile and perhaps a tear to anyone who has ever held a cat in their heart. A warning, however… For readers who do NOT have a soft spot for felines, well, this book might not be very amusing or heartwarming to you. After all, cats will be cats, for better or worse, and Kit Kat and Lucy are certainly no exception!

I am grateful to have received a copy of this book from Revell Reads, free of charge, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Don’t Miss the Journey of Becoming “Made Well” – Guest Review by Hayley

made-well-image“In the beginning, you were made well. Designed with divine imagination, shaped by sacred hands, and crafted by the Curator of creation. You and I were called good. We were already enough.” Such is the opening line of Jenny Simmons’ new release from Baker Books, “Made Well”. The subtitle describes it best: “Finding Wholeness in the Everyday Sacred Moments”. A Brilliant Plot – A Guest Review by Hayley

tangled-webs-imageAt last, the third installment to the “Men of Valor” series has been released! Readers of the first two books in this family saga will undoubtedly flock to Irene Hannon’s newest release, “Tangled Webs”. And with the promise of suspense and intrigue, who wouldn’t?

I am very impressed with the storyline of “Tangled Webs”. The many layers to the plot, and how it all comes together in such a complicated yet understandable way, was nothing short of brilliant, and I credit the author for achieving this task to such a high degree. This book is truly a very intricately woven web of plots, incidents – and consequences. Continue reading

Not a Book I Recommend

traces-of-guilt-imageDee Henderson is the popular and award-winning author of many bestselling series, but honestly, after reading her latest novel, I don’t see what all the hype for her writing is about. “Traces of Guilt: An Evie Blackwell Cold Case”, was published by Bethany House late in 2016. It is presumably the first of a new series, but is somehow connected to many of Henderson’s previous books as well. In any case, I was excited to dive into what I hoped would be a fascinating mystery filled with twists and turns as a years-old mystery is finally solved. That’s what a cold case mystery novel is, right? Unfortunately, not so much…

“Traces of Guilt” was disappointing for several primary reasons: Continue reading

A Stunning Conclusion to a Remarkable Series

ladies-of-the-manor-series-imageSigh… I am quite sad. Why? Because one of the most intriguing, compelling and well-written novel series I’ve read in a long time has reached the end. Finished. Over. Forever. Isn’t that tragic? Roseanna M. White’s “Ladies of the Manor” series, published by Bethany House, began a year ago with the release of “The Lost Heiress”, followed this past spring by “The Reluctant Duchess”, and now concluding with “A Lady Unrivaled”. Each of these stories is built upon each other, and the characters, mystery, and basically the entire plot is interwoven very closely. My recommendation is NOT to read these books as stand-alone novels, or out of their proper order, because the full effect of the story will undoubtedly be lost. Continue reading
