Jaime Jo Wright’s Most Spellbinding Story Yet

“The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus” by Jaime Jo Wright was a book that I had to finish within a couple days! It is the kind of absorbing and evocative novel that works its way into your mind and will prevent you from thinking of much else until the mystery is solved and the characters receive closure (whatever that may look like… I will warn you, there are murders involved).

All of Jaime Jo Wright’s books have been stunning in their juxtapositions of the darkness and the light of this world; mistakes and mysteries of the past colliding with their results and consequences in the present. “The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus”, however, is my favorite because I could relate to these characters more than most of her other ones… Continue reading

An Unforgettable Epistolary

Amy Lynn Green is a brilliantly talented writer who, I am thrilled to say, has released her first novel from Bethany House Publishers – the very place where she has worked as a publicist for several years! Amy’s nonfiction articles have been featured in numerous publications that I’ve had the pleasure of reading over the years, and each one showcases her sparkling wit and thought-provoking wisdom. Now, this gift of writing has (at long last!) been transferred over into a beautiful novel that I almost missed, but I’m so glad I didn’t! Continue reading

Ancient Prophesies and Modern Agendas Collide

I really enjoyed Ronie Kendig’s “The Tox Files” series from Bethany House Publishers, and I’ve been continuing through “The Book of the Wars” series as a spin-off that is similar in style. “Soul Raging” is the final story in this series, and I must admit, it lacked a lot of the character depth and compelling plot points that brought the other stories to life for me. Yes, it still contains plenty of adventure, drama, intrigue, and all those elements of suspense – and yet the characters don’t come to life as they did in her earlier books. The story was so action-packed that it seemed like the lives of the characters came second place… and for this character-oriented reader, it was a bit of a disappointment. Continue reading

“The Brides of Hope Mountain” Reaches a Climax and Conclusion!

Sigh… You know that bittersweet feeling when you reach the final page of the concluding book in a series, knowing that your time with the characters is finished? “The Brides of Hope Mountain” series, written by Mary Connealy and published by Bethany House, has reached the end, and so our time with the three Nordegren sisters is over as well. “Her Secret Song” has long been on my reading list because I was so intrigued (and sometimes annoyed!) by the oldest of the three sisters, Ursula, but we had to wait patiently to see her story revealed. This Story Is Like A Poem – Guest Review by Hayley

When I first opened the cover of “Set the Stars Alight”, I had no idea just how special of a book I had the privilege of reading.  Now, having come to the end of this incredible masterpiece, I truly cannot tell you how much it has blessed me.

Another Stellar Story from Jennifer Delamere!

Hurray! A new series by Jennifer Delamere begins! “Line by Line” is the first book in her “Love Along the Wires” series, and I adored each page of this delightful Christian Historical novel from Bethany House. Set in London in 1880, this is a story that is compelling, witty, and sweetly romantic – with plenty of unexpected twists to keep readers guessing along the way.

At first I thought “Line by Line” was going to be a feministic story filled with the movement for women’s rights and independence, and all the things that go along with that. (That’s not to say this is a bad thing, but I don’t generally care for stories that lean too much towards the “women don’t need men at all” mindset). Anyways, this wasn’t ultimately the case in this story, Continue reading

A Lovely New Regency Romance Series Begins!

Kristi Ann Hunter is my favorite author of Christian novels set in the Regency era, and I have enjoyed reading each one of her books. I was delighted to learn that her new 2020 release is the beginning of a brand new series (her third series from Bethany House, I believe?) called “Hearts on the Heath”.

“Vying for the Viscount” is the first story of this new series, and from chapter one I was swept away to the time period made so famous by Jane Austen’s stories. In a way, Kristi’s new novel is reminiscent of an Austen story, with all the wit and wisdom underlying the ridiculous-sounding customs of courtship and all the rituals relating to it. Mixed Feelings About New “Hearts of Montana” Story – Guest Review by Hayley

If you read the first installment of the “Hearts of Montana” series, then you will probably be eager for this one as well.

I was excited to read “Love’s Mountain Quest”, but I’m finding that I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book.  Some parts I liked and other parts I didn’t.  There is enough adventure in this book to please even the bravest of thrill-seekers, as well as great lessons in faith and character.  But there is also enough sadness and pain and anguish that it can feel like a bit of a downer. Unique Facets of Civil War History

I always learn some interesting history lessons when I pick up a Judith Miller book from Bethany House Publishers! In her new release of “A Single Spark”, I discovered unique facts about the arsenals responsible for producing munitions during the Civil War, and how the vast majority of employees in these facilities were women. Although necessary for the Union Army to win the war, these were dangerous positions for many reasons including close contact with gunpowder, as well as the possibility for treasonous activity within the production sites. . . As was the case in “A Single Spark”! Continue reading

Another Unforgettable Release In Elizabeth Camden’s “Hope And Glory” Series

I have been excitedly awaiting the release of “A Gilded Lady” ever since I finished “The Spice King” (the first book in Elizabeth Camden’s “Hope and Glory” series). It was everything I hoped for and more! I can’t wait for Bethany House to release the third and final installment in the series – I’m hoping it’s sooner than later. . . Continue reading
