The Perfect Summertime Read – guest review by Hayley

Book number one of the “Cape Cod Creamery” series was one of the best summertime books I have read in a while.  Which, of course, made me look forward to “The Secret To Happiness,” book number two in this lovely series.  Continue reading

A Fair Warning – You Won’t Be Able To Put It Down!

Oh how I adored this book!  I’m not surprised, really, because Ann Gabhart’s name is on the cover and so OF COURSE it will be good, and it was!  In the Shadow of the River” is one of my favorite Christian Historical Fiction novels I’ve read in awhile, perhaps because of the sheer uniqueness of the setting – and the talent of bringing these interesting characters’ stories to life.  I also appreciated how well-drawn the backstory was, and how childhood memories played such a foundational role in how the story played out in our heroine’s adult life. A Story That Begins Before Time Itself

I never pass by an opportunity to read one of Jill Eileen Smith’s new Biblical Fiction masterpieces. “Daughter of Eden: Eve’s Story” is one of the most unique stories I’ve read in a long time, for obvious reasons… after all, it’s not every book that tells us the story of the first man and woman ever created!  And it certainly exceeded my expectations in all ways.   Continue reading

Step Back In Time To Sweetwater Crossing

As you probably know, Christian Historical Fiction is my favorite genre hands-down.  More specifically, stories with a traditional western setting during the 1800s are my go-to choices.  So Amanda Cabot’s writing is always appealing to me, and when I saw that her new series entitled “Secrets of Sweetwater Crossing” is set in a little Texas town where love grows even as mysteries threaten to divide, I knew I wanted to give it a try! A High-Stakes Alaskan Adventure

Cold Light of Day” is an action-packed new novel by Elizabeth Goddard that had me flipping pages as quickly as I could, even late into the night, in order to discover how this secret web of Alaskan intrigue would be unraveled.  As the first book in the “Missing in Alaska” series, this novel takes off with a flying start.  It is action-packed but features a strong and compelling storyline as well – plus characters who leap off the pages and into our mind’s eye.   Continue reading

What A Ride!

Deep sigh…. We can all move on with our lives now, since at long last Susan May Warren’s “Sky King Ranch” trilogy has been completed!  Each of the Kingston brothers has told their stories, and all of the loose ends have been tied up.  Sundown” was a nail-biting page-turner that kept me wondering at the outcome right until the end, and surprised me in ways I was not anticipating. A Beautiful Story Featuring A Very Special Character

I don’t know how she does it, but Stephenia H. McGee’s new release from Revell is so vivid and real in my imagination that it feels more like a movie than a novel!  The Secrets of Emberwild” is a beautiful, sweeping, and unforgettable story that I adored from start to finish, and if you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction it should definitely be high on your to-read list as well.   Continue reading

Riveting Yet Challenging – Beautiful Yet Dark – A Guest Review by Hayley

The Lost Melody” is quite unlike any other book I have ever read, mostly due to the fact it takes place almost exclusively in the setting of the Hurstwell Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

As usual for Joanna Davidson Politano, “The Lost Melody” is written in a  beautifully poetic style, with many thoughts and insights that are truly thought-provoking and intuitive.  Within just the first few chapters I began to get some distinctly Jane Eyre vibes from this novel, and it continued on throughout much of the story.  Plus, there is the usual mystery, intrigue, romance, and twisting, turning, spinning storyline that I’ve come to expect from this author.  I had several ideas as to how it would end, but it turned out to be none of them.  Not once did I guess correctly on how the mystery aspect of “The Lost Melody” would conclude.  I believe that is a sign of a very well-done novel.  Plus, readers of “A Midnight Dance” will appreciate a clever tie-in between these two books. A Trip To PEI -Just What We All Need!

Book number 2 in the “Prince Edward Island Shores” series is one of the novels I was most anticipating this summer, because a visit to the Island (even a fictitious visit) is always a welcome retreat!  The Last Way Home” is Liz Johnson’s sequel to “Beyond the Tides”, and tells the story of two characters we were just briefly introduced to – but who now share a whole plethora of history, secrets, and surprises with us.
