This was the case for me with Kimberly Duffy’s second novel from Bethany House Publishers, entitled “A Tapestry of Light”. This gripping tale swept me away to India, where a young woman’s entire life is turned upside down with a terrible tragedy, followed by an unbelievable discovery.

For the last couple days, I have spent every spare minute at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, where I witnessed an unforgettable story unfold. How did I travel back in time? Jocelyn Green’s new release from Bethany House Publishers, “Shadows of the White City”, was my time machine of choice, and as is always the case with her books it completely immersed me from start to finish. This story is the second of “The Windy City Saga”, and takes place almost twenty years after “Veiled in Smoke” occurred. All my favorite characters return in these pages, but this time it is Sylvie Townsend who is featured in the spotlight, as uncomfortable as it may be for her. . .
Wow, was this ever a humdinger of a sequel in the “Heirloom Secrets” series! “Paint and Nectar” is the second book I’ve read by the incredibly talented Ashley Clark, (the first was “The Dress Shop on King Street”) and it completely blew me away. This author manages to create poetry out of prose, and inspire readers with the themes of hope found in beauty, and the importance of preserving the past even as we move forward in the present.

It’s that time of year again, when author Irene Hannon takes us all to the place we wish we could live (or at least visit!) and surrounds us with friends both old and new. The tales from Hope Harbor continue in her newest story from Revell Publishers entitled “Blackberry Beach”, where a soul-searching actress and a lonely coffee shop owner discover the magic of this special spot on the Oregon coast.

Every book I’ve read by Hannah Anderson is like a retreat for the soul, a space where I can be quiet, calm, and contemplative. “Turning of Days: Lessons from Nature, Season, and Spirit” was released by Moody Publishers and is a bit different from her usual books, mainly because, as Hannah herself explains, it is “a collection of devotional essays (rather than in my typical book-length form) because I want to invite you to slow down and reflect on nature’s testimony.” It is organized by the four seasons, and includes beautifully simple sketches and illustrations completed by Hannah’s husband Nathan.

Although it’s a little out of the ordinary from her typical setting and style, after reading Jody Hedlund’s newest release from Bethany House I would never guess that faith-based western romances aren’t her primary genre! “A Cowboy For Keeps” is the first book in her new “Colorado Cowboys” series, and is a must-read for fans of Christian Historical Fiction, particularly Westerns. (Basically, if you enjoy authors such as Karen Witemeyer, this story will be right at home on your shelf!) Continue reading
I am quite certain that I’ll be in the minority when I say that I just finished reading “That Sounds Fun” by Annie F. Downs WITHOUT having ever listened to her podcast by the same name, but let me assure you that I have already bookmarked several episodes of the podcast that definitely sound very fun to me! Annie’s new book was published by Revell early in the year 2021, and the subtitle gives us a little hint of just what sorts of treasures we will discover within its pages: The Joys Of Being An Amateur, The Power Of Falling In Love, And Why You Need A Hobby. In the acknowledgements at the end of the book, Jill Eileen Smith claims that she has been certain a couple of times before that she had just completed the hardest book she’d ever write… but now, without question, “Miriam’s Song” is her most challenging book to date. I am always excited to meet a new author through the pages of their debut novel, and this month I became acquainted with the talented new voice of Jennifer Deibel. “A Dance in Donegal” was published by Revell earlier this year, and is a richly atmospheric story set in Ireland, 1921.
