Isn’t it amazing that after so many decades of writing inspirational, faith-filled novels that have touched the hearts of readers too numerous to count, Janette Oke is still releasing stories that take you on a journey of hope and love? Once again alongside her daughter Laurel Oke Logan, Janette gives us the sweet second story in the “When Hope Calls” trilogy, entitled “Sustaining Faith”. Published by Bethany House Publishers and the companion story to the Hallmark television series of the name, this story is even more compelling and heart-wrenching than the first book, “Unyielding Hope”. A Truly Great Story – guest review by Hayley
“All That Really Matters” is a book I have anticipated ever since Nicole Deese’s previous release. After her last book rose to be among the top titles of my favourites list, (and still remains there to this day) I couldn’t wait for this one. And although I know you “can’t judge a book by it’s cover”, I just have to say that the cover of this book is SO stunning!
I would describe this book as… sparkly, much like it’s heroine! Not because it is light and fluffy – it’s not. More because of the sparkling talent that this author clearly has for storytelling, creating amazingly life-like characters, and using very unique storylines. I can honestly say I have never read a book that had even a similar storyline to this one. Continue reading
Esther’s Story Like We’ve Never Seen It Before
When I saw the newest addition to the Moody Bible Studies for Women collection, I was so excited to see the topic! “Summoned: Answering a Call to the Impossible – An 8-Week Study of Esther” was written by Megan B. Brown, and is about the book of the Bible named after a young, secretly-Jewish queen… But let me also say, this book takes you on a journey deep behind-the-scenes of Esther’s story that is unlike any you’ve taken before.
Continue readingTake An Appalachian Vacation!

Reading a new story by Ann H. Gabhart is like taking a summer vacation – back in time to the Appalachian Mountains! “Along A Storied Trail” is the latest trip I took with Ann as my guide, and I enjoyed each moment.
Continue readingGirlDefined’s First Devotional Is Awesome!

I have read each and every one of Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal’s books, and I was so excited to see them release a devotional for the first time this spring! “Shine Bright: 60 Days to Becoming a Girl Defined by God” is a beautiful little hardcover from BakerBooks, and more importantly, the inside is packed with 60 daily doses of hope, reflection, and guidance for getting into God’s word.

Have you ever found yourself in a story? By that I mean, found a character whose struggles and questions and aspirations are so much like yours, that their story really could be your story? This was the case for me with Kimberly Duffy’s second novel from Bethany House Publishers, entitled “A Tapestry of Light”. This gripping tale swept me away to India, where a young woman’s entire life is turned upside down with a terrible tragedy, followed by an unbelievable discovery.
Continue readingThoughtful New Collection from Hannah Anderson

Every book I’ve read by Hannah Anderson is like a retreat for the soul, a space where I can be quiet, calm, and contemplative. “Turning of Days: Lessons from Nature, Season, and Spirit” was released by Moody Publishers and is a bit different from her usual books, mainly because, as Hannah herself explains, it is “a collection of devotional essays (rather than in my typical book-length form) because I want to invite you to slow down and reflect on nature’s testimony.” It is organized by the four seasons, and includes beautifully simple sketches and illustrations completed by Hannah’s husband Nathan.
Continue readingAnswering the Question: What Does Art Have To Do With Faith?

“Discovering God Through the Arts: How We Can Grow Closer to God by Appreciating Beauty & Creativity” is a new release from Moody Publishers that immediately caught my attention. In this book, author Terry Glaspey asks (and answers) the question “what does art have to do with faith?” I’ve always been interested in this topic, because I believe that art – including music, films, novels, etc. – can be beneficial for more than just entertainment. This book helped me articulate HOW the arts can help build our faith and encourage thoughtful contemplation and growth in all areas of life.
Continue readingAnnie Helps Us Bring The FUN Back!
I am quite certain that I’ll be in the minority when I say that I just finished reading “That Sounds Fun” by Annie F. Downs WITHOUT having ever listened to her podcast by the same name, but let me assure you that I have already bookmarked several episodes of the podcast that definitely sound very fun to me! Annie’s new book was published by Revell early in the year 2021, and the subtitle gives us a little hint of just what sorts of treasures we will discover within its pages: The Joys Of Being An Amateur, The Power Of Falling In Love, And Why You Need A Hobby. Sounds fun, right? Continue reading
A Beloved Fiction Author’s First Bible Study!
Authors of Biblical Fiction have a beautiful ability to bring well-known stories and characters to life in ways that expand our imaginations, and perhaps cause us to look at a portion of the Bible (that we may have read a hundred times before) in a new and exciting way. Tessa Afshar is a beloved author of many Biblical Fiction novels, and has now directed her knowledge and talents down a new path – as a writer for Moody Bible Studies for Women! “The Way Home: God’s Invitation to New Beginnings – A 6-Week Bible Study of Ruth” is an invitation to step into the courageous story of Ruth and Naomi as it comes to life like never before – from the pen of a fiction author. . .
