The first book in bestselling author Irene Hannon’s new Christian Romantic Suspense series has just been released from Revell. Book number one in the “Code of Honor” series, aptly entitled “Dangerous Illusions”, will keep you guessing until the end.
While not the most suspense-filled novel I’ve read by Ms. Hannon, “Dangerous Illusions” still contained enough nail-biting moments to keep me flipping pages after I should have went to bed. Continue reading
“Lady Jayne Disappears” by Joanna Davidson Politano is definitely one of the most unique stories I’ve read in 2017. Published by Revell in November, this fascinating novel also happens to be captivating and compelling, while imparting powerful messages of identity, love, and belonging. All this amounts to quite an accomplishment for a debut novel, wouldn’t you agree?
To be honest, I didn’t feel like starting a Christmas book quite yet – it seemed too early. But after reading only the first few chapters of a story that will definitely become an annual tradition, I was enchanted. Tamera Alexander’s newest release from Thomas Nelson, “Christmas at Carnton”, is a novella, but a fairly long one. It is also the introductory story to a new three-novel series about the Carnton Plantation in Franklin, Tennessee.
With novels written by Lynn Austin and published by Bethany House, I’ve learned that you can generally count on three unique features:
One of Revell Publishing’s newest releases to the non-fiction market is “Hurt Road” by none other than Mark Lee, guitarist for the Christian band Third Day. In a gentle, friendly style, Mark Lee invites us to join him in the stories he has lived, offering us a glimpse into “the music, the memories, and the miles between”. While “Hurt Road” is a book that can easily be enjoyed by anyone, I would especially recommend it to those with a love of music, as much of the book is written from the perspective of a musician.
Ronie Kendig has a gift for penning stories that keep readers holding their breath as they rapidly flip the pages, desperate to discover what happens next. “Crown of Souls”, the second installment in “The Tox Files” series published by Bethany House, is no exception.
“Beyond the Castle” surprised me in many ways. To start, I didn’t have high expectations of the book. I thought it would be a cute, fluffy, but essentially useless book of platitudes, and “happy thoughts” that don’t really work on the bad days. To sum up how the real content of the book compares to my expectations, three words are most fitting: I was wrong.
Every once in a while I enjoy giving a new Amish novel a try, and usually it is the Beverly Lewis titles that catch my eye. “The Proving” is Ms. Lewis’ newest release from Bethany House, and tells the story of Mandy, a young woman who thought she had left her Amish life behind forever. . . Until she receives a letter from her brother, informing her of their mother’s death and the news that the family’s thriving Bed and Breakfast has been left to none other than Mandy herself.
Fantastic! Intriguing! Life-changing! The best non-fiction book I’ve read this year! That is basically my short description of a book by Anne Bogel called “Reading People: How Seeing the World Through the Lens of Personality Changes Everything”. Published by BakerBooks in the autumn of 2017, the sub-title of this book really says it all. Why? Because everything truly does change when you view life through the lens of personality! As the back cover asks, “Want to revolutionize the way you live, love, work, and pray? Understanding personality is the first step!” If you’ve ever wanted a better understanding of the personality frameworks that are popular today, this book should definitely go to the top of your must-read pile.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for (or at least all the fans of Kristi Ann Hunter’s Regency-era “Hawthorne House” series have been waiting for) finally arrived in the autumn of 2017! From Bethany House comes “An Inconvenient Beauty”, the story of the last, unmarried Hawthorne sibling: Griffith, Duke of Riverton. Because Griffith was a character we all came to adore in the previous books, I’m certain I wasn’t the only reader waiting with baited breath to finally encounter the lady who would win his heart.
