Have you ever found yourself in a story? By that I mean, found a character whose struggles and questions and aspirations are so much like yours, that their story really could be your story? This was the case for me with Kimberly Duffy’s second novel from Bethany House Publishers, entitled “A Tapestry of Light”. This gripping tale swept me away to India, where a young woman’s entire life is turned upside down with a terrible tragedy, followed by an unbelievable discovery.

This has been a year filled with truly amazing new novels. Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly discover one more favorite book this late in the year… I did! But I should have known this would happen, when Joanna Davidson Politano released a new historical novel from Revell Publishers entitled “The Love Note”. Perhaps this talented author’s best work yet, this story did something to me that novels rarely do: it made me not only cry, but sob as tears streamed from my eyes! It was just that powerful, and touched my emotions profoundly.
I always learn some interesting history lessons when I pick up a Judith Miller book from Bethany House Publishers! In her new release of “A Single Spark”, I discovered unique facts about the arsenals responsible for producing munitions during the Civil War, and how the vast majority of employees in these facilities were women. Although necessary for the Union Army to win the war, these were dangerous positions for many reasons including close contact with gunpowder, as well as the possibility for treasonous activity within the production sites. . . As was the case in “A Single Spark”!
It isn’t every day that a book comes your way which inspires you, challenges you, makes you laugh, makes you cry, and makes you think. But every once in a while, there is just such a book, and for me this was “Before I Called You Mine” by Nicole Deese.
Well, that was a thrill-ride of a novel! “Kings Falling” is Ronie Kendig’s second story in “The Book of the Wars” series from Bethany House, and I’m certain it was even more exciting and un-put-downable than the first! From page one I was swept by the race against time as Leif Metcalfe and his team try to recover the ancient and world-altering Book of the Wars – but they aren’t the only ones looking for it, and there is so much more going on behind the scenes than anyone could imagine.
It feels like a long time since I’ve read anything by beloved author Janette Oke and her daughter Laurel Oke Logan, so I was delighted to hear that they are once again releasing a new series of books from Bethany House! This time it is the “When Hope Calls” series based on the Hallmark TV show of the same name – and it is distantly connected to the “Return to the Canadian West” / “When Calls the Heart” series as well. But anyway, aside from all the connections this new story makes, “Unyielding Hope” is a lovely story in its own right!
