I love time-slip novels, and I also tend to choose books set in the World War Two time period. That made “Hidden Among the Stars” an easy choice for me, as it incorporates two interwoven stories, a contemporary one, and a historical one set during WWII. Continue reading

A Satisfying Conclusion to a Fascinating Series
I always feel like sighing after finishing the last installment of a series, as it brings both a sense of completion and a feeling of regret that the journey has concluded. Suzanne Woods Fisher’s “Nantucket Legacy” trilogy, published by Revell, has now come to a close with “The Light Before Day”. The fascinating Quaker history combined with an intriguing plot, memorable characters, and a second parallel tale told through a decades-old journal, all combine to make this series one that I am glad to have read. One of My Top Historical Novels of the Year!
First off let me say, I’m going to try my best not to gush incessantly and ecstatically about the following novel, and instead calmly provide several well-founded reasons as to why you simply MUST READ THIS BOOK for yourself! “A Rumored Fortune” is the second novel written by the incredibly talented Joanna Davidson Politano (her first was the extraordinary “Lady Jayne Disappears”), and published by Revell in 2018. It is a beautiful story filled with treasure hunts, thoughtful analogies based on Scripture, characters who you instantly either adore or abhor, a sweet but unlikely romance, and a Victorian castle that holds unimagined secrets deep within. If you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction, I recommend that you place this story at the top of your reading list – it is simply too good to miss! Continue reading
A Sweeping, Memorable Civil War Saga
All stories affect us to some degree, but in some cases when the topic strikes such a chord in our hearts, we hold the story up beside our own lives as a filter to perhaps look at life a little differently than we did before. The issues surrounding slavery, and the courage of the men and women who helped the slaves escape their prison, are a prime example of a very poignant slice of history for many people. I have only read a handful of stories set during the Civil War, but Tara Johnson’s newest novel is definitely one of the most memorable. “Engraved on the Heart” was published by Tyndale House in the fall of 2018, and is a moving saga of courage, faith, and love. Disappointing Novel About C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman’s Relationship
I had high hopes for a new book written by Patti Callahan and published by Thomas Nelson. “Becoming Mrs. Lewis” promised to be a “masterful exploration of one of the greatest love stories of modern times” – the one between C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman. What I actually discovered, however, was a story so ridden with inappropriate and downright yucky content that I was unable to finish the book.
To be clear, “Becoming Mrs. Lewis” is a well-written and thought-provoking novel that seems to be based, at least to a certain extent, on the real relationship between C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman. The problems arise in the details of the behind-the-scenes relationship story… Continue reading
The Electrifying Conclusion of “The Tox Files”
At long last, the epic chronicle of “The Tox Files” comes to an electrifying climax and shocking conclusion! “Thirst of Steel” is the third book in the riveting series written by Ronie Kendig and published by Bethany House, and is undoubtedly the best and most compelling installment of them all. If you have enjoyed the previous hair-raising operations of Tox Russell and the rest of the Wraith team, you will not want to miss this final conflict, which “Will hinge on one of history’s most dangerous blades”… The sword of Goliath. Continue reading
A Sweet, Memorable Historical Story (Set in Canada!)
I just finished the type of book that I wish could have went on for much longer. Thankfully, it is the beginning of a brand-new series! “The Best of Intentions” is the first installment of Susan Anne Mason’s new “Canadian Crossings” series published by Bethany House, and is a memorable and inspiring addition to the Christian Historical Fiction genre. Continue reading
A Haunting Yet Beautiful Story of Unlikely Friendship
“The Solace of Water” by Elizabeth Byler Younts is the type of story that stays with you long after reaching the final page. Published by Thomas Nelson, this book is an intricate tapestry that spans a vast range of emotions, from soul-numbing grief to the hope which only the redemption of Christ can endow. Although external action is not the focus of this story, the inner worlds of the three POV characters are compelling, heart-wrenching, and at times even haunting. Continue reading
